Stanton Springs Plant

Rivian is redirecting R2 production from its planned Stanton Springs site near Atlanta to its expanded Normal, Illinois complex, saying the move saves more than $2.25 billion versus the original Georgia launch plan and keeps R2 start of production on track for the first half of 2026. The company has completed major Normal expansions, including a 1.1 million-square-foot body shop and general assembly facility plus a 1.2 million-square-foot supplier park and logistics center, and says design validation builds, manufacturing validation builds, and prototype-line work are progressing with majority production tooling. At the Georgia site, Rivian has held a September groundbreaking outside Social Circle, begun hiring for construction and management roles, and plans to start construction in 2026 with customer vehicle production in 2028. The Stanton Springs facility is intended to be a state-of-the-art plant supported by a DOE loan, with initial capacity raised to 300,000 vehicles annually for Rivian’s mid-sized platform and roughly 7,500 local jobs expected, while the Atlanta headquarters is meant to complement the new manufacturing footprint.
